Is Leadership Is Just Another Word For Effective Management?

A good leader is not one who boasts about his pomp, power, and position. Every organization that is successful today is because of effective leadership. Effective leadership is one of the reasons for growth, innovation; but definitely not the only reason. An effective leader is not born but goes through intense leadership development and coaching. It is executive leadership coaching that makes a leader not run after fame and accolades; but constantly works for the well-being of his co-workers and the benefit of the organization above everything else.

What is effective leadership?

Our management coaching and team development teach an effective leader to redefine the visions of the organization and fulfills them as well. He is the stepping stone for innovation and everyone within the organization looks up to him/her. Effective leadership means creating, making healthy space for discussion and actualization of vision, planning, securing resources, avoiding and rectifying errors, encouraging and cooperating co-workers to fulfill the vision.

Effective leadership and management are not the same things. Effective management must have leadership skills, but effective leadership can do without management. Effective leaders are respected not feared, they are by and for the organization through thick and thin.

Various types of management styles of effective leadership

  • Autocratic management: This old-fashioned style slows the creativity and growth rates of workers. This style of leadership only works when your co-workers have no experience. If the situation calls for it, use the path-goal method of leadership where you delegate your team clear and direct instructions to your team.
  • Affiliative management: This style works best when you are building a new team from scratch and give them plenty of time and patience to learn to work in a high-risk environment; understand their duties and resolve personal conflicts. An affiliative leader always stands in the middle of a seesaw to create balance. Once the team gets accustomed to change; the leader switches to a goal-based management style.
  • Coaching management: This style is a mixture of affiliative and autocratic styles; and works best for maturing teams. Effective leaders always act as coaches to inspire, encourage and guide their co-workers to greater achievement.
  • Democratic management: Democratic leaders listen, collaborate, and demonstrate to bring out innovative products and spaces. As every voice is heard, this style is suitable where time and resources are not the restraints to brainstorming and feedback.
  • Visionary management: Visionary leaders know exactly when to inspire and empower. When the democratic leadership style fails, visionary leadership takes charge. Visionary leaders have a cult personality and rely on strong central leadership to maintain cohesion.

Difference between efficient management and effective leadership

‘Effective’ means to produce intended results, and ‘efficient’ means performing to the best of your abilities in the shortest time and effort. Our executive leadership coaching teaches effective leadership where leaders focus on productivity and multifarious levels of motivation, teamwork, goals, and communication. They create a healthy space where employees create and innovate to complete their vision.

Effective Leadership

An effective manager can work within limited resources to get quick results professionally. Efficient leaders avoid mistakes and repeat steps to achieve goals. Both efficiency and effectiveness are needed for a good leader; while one is achieved at the expense of the other. One can balance the two but usually weighs one quality above the other. Both can work together if the situation demands.

Characteristics of effective leadership

  • Our leadership development and coaching programs teach leaders early in their careers to lend their ears, exercise authority to be the go-to person for certain problems. But as they mature, they influence to reach goals in a direct path.
  • Good leaders are transparent to a certain extent to promote collaboration and accountability, but keep things under wraps when needed.
  • They encourage risk-taking and innovative environments to push limits, propose new theories and ideas as they value creativity.
  • Effective leaders treasure ethics and integrity as they instill confidence and create a fair environment for all to make sure everyone is on the same page.
  • They take strategic decisions quickly to balance between long-term goals and objectives.
  • Effective leaders accept failure and bring a new course of action to chart new goals with optimism.
